Mel Gibson is saying that his box office sensation from 1995 is bogus. It really is, but I find it odd that he is saying it after all this time.

Things that bothered me about the Movie:
1. William Wallace did not know or wear a Kilt. Tartan would have been even more alien in his world.
2. There was not one Great Highland Bagpipe played (would have been just after the Kilt age-but if kilts, why not GHB’s). Instead they used an Irish Ullien Pipe.
3. Mel’s William was portrayed as very educated, but not well off, living in a Shilling (small rural cottage). This happens in the current world, but in the 1300’s, this would a bizarre sight. The article said it best, he was from a privileged background. That would be like Bill Gates moving into a 900 sq ft Ranch Home in a nearly rural town far from much. A rich mental case might, but most want what they can afford.
Most of the others are covered in the article. It just goes to show Hollywood is a bad place for a contemporary education though cinema.
He said it at a Scottish convention. I heard they are 50-50. The traditionalist hate the story, taken as truth. The neo-nationalist love it, see it as a symbol of their need to separate from England.
I also did not know that white supremacist were so into the movie. He might be trying to distance himself from that movement after his little Jew explosion when he got pulled over from DUI.
There have been an article here in the internet about most inaccuate films before. So I already knew it before he admit it.
I missed all week in my class and they watched a movie and I have to still do the questions! Help me please! And i have 3 other questions
Why does Robert the Bruce admire the young upstart William Wallace?
What rhetoric does Wallace use to rally the fleeing Scottish army at Stirling?
and!
On what grounds does Wallace criticize the Scottish nobles?
Thank you in advance!
Robert the Bruce admires young Wallace’s passion and desire to change things. One of the elders comments that it’s easy to admire someone who is uncomprimising…or something like that.
Wallace tells the fleeing Scottish that they can run if they choose, and they will live, for awhile. But if they fight now, they’ll be fighting for Scotlands sons and daughters.
Wallace criticizes the Scottish nobles for comprimising I think and fighting amongst themselves over Longshank’s "scraps" (Meaning land, estate, hereditary title)
well in HISTORY, william wallace was born innocent under english oppression in scotland and ireland. he was well rounded because he was a family man, as well as a great motivator and leader.
In the movie, well, he IS mel gibson after all.
Very, very little. There was a William Wallace and he *did* fight for Scotland’s freedeom. However, there’s not much after that in the film that is historically accurate. William Wallace never had an affair with Isabelle. The Battle of Sterling Bridge was filmed without a bridge. Robert the Bruce’s father wasn’t a leper… etc. etc.

We watched the movie in class and had a study guide to fill out, these are some questions I didn’t pick up on during the movie. I thought maybe someone who has seen the movie a lot would be able to help me on them. Thanks!!!
1. Who did King Edward I "Longshanks" choose as a wife for his son, the prince?
2. What is Edward’s solution to the trouble with Scotland? How does he plan to fix that it’s full of Scots?
3. What does Stephen manage to do that no one else has been able to?
4. Who warns William of the English surprise attack?
5. Who gives William his word that he will help fight the English at Falkirk?
6. What do the nobles do at the battle of Falkirk?
7. What happens to William at Edinborough?
The answer to your 2nd question would be that Edward’s noble’s or I think any englishman could sleep with any Scottish girl who was married on their wedding night in the hopes that they could breed out the Scots out of Scotland.
Sorry I couldn’t answer any other questions you have here but it’s been awhile since I’ve seen that movie.
i watched it for the first time today, and i think it is a wonderful movie.
i am scottish, and i didnt know about scottish history.
ps. i know not EVERYTHING in it is true.
I loved the movie Braveheart. I’m not Scottish, but I learned a lot about Scottish history and the courage and valor of the Scottish people. Mel Gibson did a great job, both in acting and directing.
I must know before I watch this movie…
*Crickets Chirping*
I’ve never seen it…is Mel Gibson in it? No, I’ve never seen it…
the rebellion by saying,
"The nobles have lands and castles. It’s much to risk."
Wallace responds by saying,
"And the common man dies he risk any less?
Question: DOES THE COMMON MAN RISK ANY LESS GOING OFF TO WAR THAN A NOBLEMAN??????
Absolutely not! If you look in the context of that particular movie, the nobles go to war, make deals, get more land and money, then leave. The nobles are corrupt, which is why Wallace kills them later (mace in the bed??? ooh yes). The noblemen whine because they risk their wealth and lands, but the common man risks his LIFE! They care little about losing their homes… They want their freedom! They don’t fight for their castles, they fight for the rights and their freedoms!
Have always wanted to know…
Well that’s a common knowledge my friend. Just make it s 2 word title and then switch them and you will get Heart Brave. The heart of a brave man, that is William Wallace.
Its for a school final….just 4 things from the movie that are true…and i cant use that william wasnt real…so there ya go and thanks!
1. the costumes are worn in braveheart is the good example of medieval costumes.
2. Edward II was homosexual.
3. William was scottish man.
4. Princess Isbella was french.
What’s not true.
1. William Wallace was suffering more than in the film, before he died.
2. Princess Isbella didn’t has the love entanglement with william.
3. William’s family wasn’t a famer, they were the nobelman, -served the High Steward of Scotland ( the ancestors of Steward family present time).
4. The british didn’t kill william’s wife.
