So because I’m an idiot when it comes to music genres, I need help.
I’m really looking for classical/celtic type music. Something like the Lord of the Rings soundtrack or Braveheart even. Anyone have any suggestions? I’d really like something with bagpipes, but anything relaxing and instrumental is great too.
All suggestions welcome and apppreciated!
Not all their songs are instrumental, and the instrumental songs of theirs are kind of fast, but check out Battlefield Band. They’re a Celtic group I saw recently (had to go, had never really listened to Celtic music before) and they turned me into a fan. Great music, and they really tear their instruments up (especially bagpipes and fiddle). Here’s a good song or two:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lfBYwM27xw&feature=related "Leaving Friday Harbour"
Check out more of their stuff (about half or so will have lyrics and words though, still great)
Also this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V84STSWVp3g&feature=related.
As for more classical instrumental music, apart from actual classic composers, you might like post-rock. Listen to this (beautiful) song by a band called Explosions in the Sky. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzj-ksNOMfU Check them out and more post rock if you like it.
Hope I helped some. Take care.
In Braveheart the film, were William Wallace and his men as rest of Scotland the Celts or Celtic people?
I mean since they marked themselves with Blue paints or whatver they were does that mean they were the native Scottish Celts, or were they more of Germanis as English people were, i assumed they were Celts considering the Passion they the Scottish had and how much they were against the English being in their land, i dont belive they were the same people as English, what ya all think
The Scottish, at that point in history, were a combination of 4 major groups: Indigenous tribes (often called Picts), the Irish Celts of Dal Riada, Germanic raiders/settlers (ie, "vikings"), and some Norman (French).
As language and culture define a Celt, yes, Wallace and his men were Scottish Celts. In fact, one of the primary themes of the stories told about him (true or not) was that he felt many of the Scottish nobles were acting too much like the English (who had become more Germanic than Celtic by that time - in part due to the influence from the old Roman invasion that downplayed some of the Celtic elements in English culture).
The body paint is "commonly known" to be called woad - but there’s actually a reasonable amount of study that shows that woad, quite simply, wouldn’t be able to make the correct color as recorded in the Roman chronicles. There’s a possibility that it was copper, but that’s still speculation.
1. The Norman Invasion and the battle of hastings
2. The English Civil War
3. The Crusades
Kingdom of Boredom (heaven) was a brilliant flick , however, it was so inaccurate at times and I guess we might need a drama serial or a REALLY good account of Saladin etc ?
Also why can’t they make great movies about their own history in England ? must we rely on the US movie industry and their talent, resources, $$$ to re-tell, re-depict the happenings of the stony old past of England ?
I haven’t seen that movie ‘King Arthur’ , so let me know if thats any good - or if its a poor account of the whole thing.
of all the ideas for a movie depicting historic events - I’d love to see a movie about the ‘English Civil War’ , i drool @ the prospect.
it would have to go all out for ‘realism’ and ’shock’ , so please, if one must be made - make it an 18, gosh they dont make ‘18′ rated movies any more eh ?
lets see gore, lets see the full monty and how it all panned out on the battlefields…it wasn’t pretty nor was it ‘censored’ or ‘polticaly correct’ back in the 1640’s , so why dumb it down for todays noobish audiences ? people are stabbing each other to death in 2008, and we read about 24/7 - surely graphical and accurate accounts of the past on film aren’t a bad thing ? I’m sure art students would agree with this.
if a movie on the english civil war gets made - make it interesting but less cheesy than ‘braveheart’ .
Also - a good account of the crusades too, how the papacy got involved etc - that would be interesting, the movie should not favour the ‘beliefs’ of christianity or islam, rather showcase the motives that led each side into battle/confrontation and show the internal poltics that were happening in the christian kngdom as well as the islamic one.
Also, why on earth haven’t we had a movie about one of the most bloodiest hardest fought battles in history ? 1066 wasn’t a little sword fight between nervous noobs, oh far from it. This was a gorefest, death metal heads would so dig a movie about 1066 and the battle of hastings. The Bayeux Tapestry is inconclusive or is it ? was harold REALLY struck in the eye by an arrow then slashed down by sword ?
If you have SKY why not watch the History channel, they have some fab docudramas on the subjects that you have mentioned. Also the Military and Crime channels. They are so well done that it’s like watching films but a lot shorter (so you have more variations) and without the Hollywood feel.
I don’t want to pirate them…well unless it’s very safe! I just want to be able to listen to them. I’m wanting to hear the Braveheart soundtrack tonight…FREEDOM!!!
AMAZON.COM AND CD UNIVERSE.COM OR SOUNDTRACKS-TYPETHAT IN AND YOU WILL GET LINKS TO LISTEN THEN BUY.
what happens after his death ,,,,what really happened?
The movie Braveheart is vaguely based on an epic poem about Wallace by the Scottish bard, "Blind Harry," (all the anti-English things and the massacres.) But mostly the movie was based on Hollywood’s own ideas of what makes a film "work," and Mel Gibson’s knowledge of how little he can actually act (so more "action" scenes.) You can read about the life of William Wallace here at a Scottish History site:
http://www.electricscotland.com/history/wallace.htm
The outline of the movie is true in so far as William Wallace led the Scottish revolt against England. He was mercilessly hunted down by Edward I, and executed as a traitor (even though he had never sworn an oath to the English King. After his death Robert the Bruce took up the revolt and won and became Robert I of Scotland. His daughter was married to the first James Stuart, and brought the Stuarts to the throne of Scotland. James V Stuart inherited the throne of England (through his mother Mary Stuart.) The present British royal family have their claim through Elizabeth, the daughter of James V Stuart. So in the end the Scots won out over Edward I.
